About Scree Mountain Running

Who We Are

Scree Mountain Running is a guiding and skills coaching business based in Keswick in the North of the Lake District.

Our Story

Founded by Dava Waterhouse in 2021 to encompass both his commercial mountain work as an experienced local guide and tie in his community-focused running roles.

Experienced Fell Running Coach and Mountain Leader

As a fully qualified Coach and Fell Running Leader (UK Athletics) and Mountain Leader (Mountain Training Association), Dava has a wealth of experience moving, leading, and teaching in the UK mountain and upland regions.

Our Community Connection

Dava is a senior coach at Keswick Athletic Club, planning and delivering both fitness and mountain skill sessions for the club’s large and ever-growing membership base.

Building Links in the Lake District

Club coaching in recent years has helped build a stronger link to the local community that he is proud and grateful to be a part of. It’s always our pleasure to welcome new people to the area and share knowledge about the landscape and history as well as all facets of running off road.

What We Offer

Scree Mountain Running is here to provide quality guiding and coaching services that blend lived experience, insight and enthusiasm with welcoming and personable human interaction!

Guiding and Coaching with a Personal Touch

We live to share valuable time and experience on the fells with anyone seeking it.

Dava Waterhouse: Fell Runner and Mountain Guide

Passion for Explorative Fell Running

Dava is passionate about explorative fell and mountain running, with an emphasis on discovering new terrain and lines being the driving force behind his motivation, and the technicality of moving with speed and agility over rough steep terrain that fills him with the most satisfaction.

A Life in the Mountains

Dava has been involved in a wide spectrum of mountain sport throughout his life. Running, hiking, climbing, riding all types of two-wheeled bikes, mountaineering and snowboarding, both in the UK and years spent living and travelling in Europe, Australasia, the North Americas and beyond.

Rooted in the Lake District

Now firmly rooted with family in the North Lakes and seeing more of his time devoured by running than he thought possible. The simplicity of throwing a pair of shoes on and minimal kit making it the most accessible and efficient sport when time is at a premium!

Competitive and Performance Running

With a long-term appreciation and interest in competitive and performance off-road running he always keeps a close eye on race results across the disciplines, with traditional fell racing being closest to his heart.

Beyond Competition

That said, competitive running is only a part of the bigger picture and his love of running in the mountains is more deeply rooted in the expressive freedom and exhilaration of both solo and shared social adventure.

What This Means for Scree Mountain Running

We strive to align all of this into what we provide at Scree Mountain Running, whether you are looking to embolden yourself for bigger running adventures or upskill specifics for your ‘A’ race goals.

Pip Haworth: Ultra Runner and Mountain Guide

Experienced Outdoor Leader

Pip is a qualified Run Leader (UK Athletics) & Mountain Leader (MTA) with many years of experience in the outdoor industry.

A Life in Running

She started running in her teenage years and has been running ultra distances since 2019. In that time, she has had the opportunity to participate in, and complete some fantastic events including:

Notable Ultra Challenges

  • Lakeland 50 and 100

  • Lakes in a Day

  • Cape Wrath Ultra

  • Lakes and Northern Traverses
…and many others, including her own fast packing adventures and long adventure days out with friends.

Passion for Adventure

Pip loves the adventure of running, big days out in the fells, and the connection with people and the environment that this brings.

Bringing Ultra Expertise to Scree Mountain Running

Pip really brings the Ultra to the party at Scree Mountain Running. The level of competitive experience at the sharp end of truly long and challenging Ultra races she has acquired at a young age is impressive and that combined with a working relationship at club level with Keswick AC make her a fantastic guide to have on board for Recces and Ultra distance training.
